Doing it right requires chemicals, tanks, and know-how, but "cold bluing" is fairly easy to do at home. Best to wrap in paper (newspaper, butcher's paper, etc), then bubble wrap. This entails dipping the gun parts in a clean solution bath and then dipping them in a bluing solution for up to a half an hour. Wad up the paper towel and "Saturate" an area of it with the Gun Black. After you have handled so many guns, the whole theory of a gun's mechanical operation becomes ingrained in your mind, never to be lost.
